I started my week one challenge on Sunday morning, thinking about the phrase that would become my mantra. I used one I mentioned in the week one challenge, “my life rocks.” I picked this one because not only can I use it to express my gratitude daily, but if I start feeling stressed, I can ground myself my simply repeating that phrase. When I wake up in the morning, I think of the phrase and all the reasons why my life does rock. Sunday it helped me to feel calm through the day. Perhaps this was because it was Sunday, but I did not have the added worry about Monday morning coming along that I typically do.
Monday was a typical Monday. Always some type of craziness to make up for having those two weekend days off. My schedule follows the pretty standard Monday through Friday work week, but I think most people will feel that same type of “Monday anxiousness” following whatever days off of the week they have. So, of course there were a few stressors from work during the day, but I had written down my phrase on a post it note and was able to glance at that post it note and was able to feel the calmness just from reading that phrase. No, everything was not perfect through the day, but my anxiety level did not skyrocket from some of those issues.
The rest of the week pretty much proceeded in the same manner. As is typical for many people, work can cause many added stressors. As I mentioned above, I did write my mantra on a post it note and put it right on my desk next to my sloth tape dispenser. Whenever I felt myself starting to sink into that anxiety, I would read my mantra and use that as a calming mechanism. Funny, it did help! Focusing on all the good in my life makes me realize how small and really insignificant many of these things that start me in a downward spiral.
How has everyone’s 1st week been? Please do share in the comments, I would love to see how focusing on gratitude has helped in your first week. Remember, there are prizes possible for all those that comment each week for the next six weeks! Even if your comment is simply, “I did not have the motivation or I did not fully participate in this week’s activity, but I will start and just be a week behind,” that’s fine! The more we have participating, the more it helps others to also work to find their gratitude.
If you are ready, we can move on to week two! The link can be found in the above menu or here: https://gratefulmornings.com/week-2-highs-and-lows/
If you need to repeat week one, that’s perfectly fine too!
